No, recruiting and job placement is a lot of what we do but we are built on three pillars: Opportunities (jobs), Education (career development), and Community (connections). As we grow we continue to develop the business with these three things in mind.
WHAT DOES BEING A "FREE AGENT" MEMBER MEAN?
Free Agent everyone can sign up as a Free Agent - this puts you in our database with your rate, work and contact information. We do use this information when we are sourcing for jobs. Signing up does not guarantee you will get work with Uncompany although we hope we can offer value outside of just work. As a Free Agent you gain access to our Yacht Club Community where you can chat with other freelancers or ask questions of us. In this Community you'll also get monthly content that will include free downloads, worksheets, monthly webinars and open offices where you can talk with Unco members as well as other freelancers.Â
HOW DO I GET WORK?
To get work with Uncompany you have to sign-up on our website form. Look for "Freelancers" section to find the form. After that you are considered a Free Agent and that tells us you are interested in work. When we see an opportunity for you we will reach out with details for the job including scope and budget. You can decide from there if it's a good fit and we will present you and your estimate to the client. If the client feels solid then we will set up the project and fully onboard you as a Working Member. As a Working Member you'll gain access to more opportunities for working.Â
HOW DO I BECOMING A WORKING MEMBER?
We have a select number of working members within our network, onboarded to our system and ready to jump in and work with our clients. Throughout the year as we have new requests come in we will reach out to our Free Agent Members for support and to offer them a chance to convert to a Working Member. This is based on client need and match. If you are approved by the client for the job then we will onboard you which includes walking through our software, collecting needed tax documents and signing our Independent Contractor Agreement (ICA).Â
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET PAID?
We have had to adjust our payment periods as our clients have adjusted theres over the years. So our standard is NET 45 or payment 45 days from when your invoice is approved. Many of our enterprise clients are NET 60. When you take a job your payment terms for that client will be outlined in the contract.Â
HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK AND HOW DO YOU GET PAID?
We make a recommendation for your rate based on client budgets, what we see in the market and your preferred rate. We will present this to you and it’s ultimately up to you on your fee for hourly or project work. We get paid by adding a mark-up on your cost which our clients pay for our services. There is no fee to you.
AM I W2 OR 1099?
All of our freelancers are considered 1099. We do not take out taxes from your check so you will need to be accountable for this.
WHAT IF THERE IS A SCOPE CHANGE OR CLIENT IS DIFFICULT?
We try to let our freelancers handle issues directly but if you need us to step in or if you see a scope change that will cause an adjustment to the fee then email us so we can mediate and update the contract.Â
WHAT TYPES OF CLIENTS DO YOU WORK WITH?
We work with all types of clients and verticals, from large global brands and agencies to growing start-ups.
Â
IS YOUR WORK HOURLY OR PROJECT BASED?
We do both and we also do contracts. The way the project is set up will be discussed and approved in the beginning. If you are hourly based then you will track time and bill based on time worked in the Portal.
WHAT IS THE PORTAL?
The Portal is our software system that streamlines the process for our clients to create jobs and find talent and for our freelancers to accept jobs, track time and get paid. You will be onboarded to the software once you accepted into your first job.Â
WHAT ELSE IS THERE IF I AM NOT WORKING?
While you wait for work you will get monthly emails that update you on what is happening with Uncompany and the freelance world. You'll get access to the Yacht Club Community which will provide you monthly content, downloads, webinars and open offices. You'll get access to the store which offers paid and free content. You'll also get access to the wider freelance community to share ideas and ask questions

Free Agent vs. Working Member
Everyone who signs up is considered a Free Agent Member. With this you gain access to our Community and Education Pillars. Uncompany selects Free Agent Members to become Working Members as needs arise from our clients. We do this to manage expectations and to be able to offer more intentional onboarding with our members and clients. While we want everyone to get work we can only manage so many relationships to the level that we wish to. When we do share jobs we will do this directly to you via your email or via the "jobshare" channel in our Discord community. If you are selected to become a Working Member you will go through another onboarding process and account set-up. It is our hope to continue to grow our client list so we can continue to offer more work for our community.Â
